Third Eye Artworks & Collectibles on East Street, just south of Bay Street was opened in September 2006 with the aim of providing a new avenue for new and upcoming Bahamian artists.Since its doors opened a year agothe store has been able to showcase artworks in various forms of expression and creativity. The Gallery carries a wide selection of different mediums in pencil drawings, watercolours, acrylics, encaustic wax art, fine art photographs, giclée reproductions, wood, limestone and coral sculptures, locally hand-made straw work, booksand fashion items in shell jewelry.
It was only twelve years ago while studying abroad, specifically French, that the love for photography became apart of a journey in the world of art.Mortimer who functions as a fine art photographer and owner specializes in black and white infra red photography with handtoning and handcolouring takes delight in learning new concepts and experiments with different mediums.Hence, the exhibition entitled “The Dawn of Art” concentrates on traditional methods as well as alternative processes of photography and paintings. It will reflect the past with pinhole photography and handcolouring photographs, introduce Infrared photography with Bahamian Scenes and people in a different perspective and showcase the dawn of painting through the Encaustic Wax Art.
The Transforming Spaces weekend will give the Gallery the opportunity to further highlight the beauty of The Bahamas. As our first time on the Transforming Spaces tour we are happy to be apart of raising funds in memory of Brent Malone, which will be donated to the Brent Malone Artist in Residence Fund.“The chance to be apart of showcasing the art experience in The Bahamas brings purpose and confirms my love for being a fine art photographer” says, Paulette A. N. Mortimer. It is great to be able to give back to the community by furthering the vision of Brent Malone whose goal is to provide scholarships for other Bahamian artists to study. You can join this effort by purchasing tickets for the Transforming Spaces Tour through The National Art Gallery on West Hill Street or telephone 328-5800.
